The GIRAS laboratory is centered on the ITRAX Core scanner, a non destructive tool for radiography and X-ray microfluorescence chemical analysis of rocks and sediment at very high resolution (100 µm).
Traditionally, solid-phase geochemical data acquisition is time consuming and requires to use sediment from the sample. The ITRAX Core Scanner allows the acquisition of high resolution geochemical data and radiography from marine or lacustrine sediment without losing or destroying the material to be analyzed. This instrument performs continuous and relatively fast X-ray microfluorescence analysis and microradiography of the sample (half sediment core, U-channels, etc.) and allows to record and visualize the geochemical change profiles present in the sediment.
