Assistant professorship in Applied Geophysics at UQAM

The starting date is scheduled for June 1, 2022, subject to the required budgetary authorizations.

The Département des sciences de la Terre et de l’atmosphère (Earth and Atmospheric Sciences) invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track position in Applied Geophysics.

The successful candidate must be able to establish a research program using geophysical methods (e.g., seismic, magnetic, electric, gravitational, electromagnetic, ground-penetrating radar) in applications such as natural-resources exploration, environmental geology, hydrogeology and geomorphology. We are looking for candidates whose experience in research and teaching is complementary to that of the department, and who can develop collaborations with our professors.

The department offers education in Earth science at undergraduate, Masters and PhD level (https://scta.uqam.ca/futurs-etudiants/la-geologie-luqam/). Current expertise includes structural and economic geology, solid-Earth geophysics, geochemistry, geochronology, environmental geology, hydrogeology, Quaternary geology, paleo-oceanography, and paleoclimatology. The department is also active in research into climatology, climate modelling, and climate-related hazards.

Several members of the department are also member of the Geotop Strategic network on Earth system dynamics (https://www.geotop.ca/en/), a Québec-wide group with national and international collaborations. Geotop is internationally recognized for its research contributions in geosciences, including natural resources (minerals, energy and water), climate change, Earth system dynamics and evolution, natural hazards and human-driven pressures.
