Résumé / abstract:
Dr. Soper will present several case studies showcasing how novel and emerging applications of nitrogen and oxygen isotope analysis in plant tissue, soils and water can be used to infer patterns of plant nitrogen fixation, physiological processing, deposition, and gaseous/hydrologic loss. These applications will be highlighted in two tropical ecosystems, dry savannas and humid tropical forests, where alternative measurement options can be limited and more traditional isotopic approaches may generate misleading conclusions.
