Impacts of anthropic activities and recent climate change

Anthropic activities and the resulting climate change have a multitude of impacts on the province of Québec. Geotop members address these issues with their combined expertise and contribute to environmental government initiatives. Studies are conducted on continental (e.g., carbon stocks in boreal regions, risks of low hydraulicity in hydroelectric basins) and coastal environments as part of the efforts of the Maritime Strategy and the Québec Nordic Institute (hypoxia and acidification in the St. Lawrence River and their impacts on estuarine ecosystems; coastal erosion linked to sea level and sea ice cover changes). In the next years, integrated studies will be carried out, particularly on the Québec-Labrador coast, to better understand continent-ocean-atmosphere interactions and help improve climate models.
