The laboratory is interested in growth rings as an indicator of past hydro-climatic conditions. Facilities allow the measurement, analysis and treatment of tree-ring data for high temporal resolution reconstitution of these fluctuations.

The laboratory has facilities and expertise for the analysis of:

  • traumatic events caused by intense geomorphic processes (scars, dark circles traumatic reaction wood)
  • width, density, and cell structure of growth rings which are all indicators of past  hydro-climatic conditions
  • isotope ratios of wood cellulose (d13C, d18O) which are indicators of the physiological response of trees to climate
