Staff members

Definition

Geotop recognizes the research and training work of its many employees: chargé·e·s de cours, lecturers, contract (“sous octroi de subvention”) researchers, government researchers, laboratory managers, technicians and research support staff. These categories do not fall within the FRQ's definition of “regular member”, and their work is not counted towards the group's productivity. Nevertheless, Geotop recognizes them as full members of the center, but with different rights and duties than regular members.

Staff members:

  • Participate in all the center's decision-making bodies (scientific committee, executive committee, EDI committee, etc.);
  • Have voting rights at the researchers' assembly or other bodies;
  • May participate in Geotop Innovation collaborative projects, but may not be the principal investigator and will not be counted as a regular member under FRQ rules;
  • May be principal investigators and/or collaborators in Geotop Transfer projects;
  • May co-supervise graduate students, but must first obtain an “associate professor” status with Geotop or their home department. Co-supervision will not be counted as co-supervision between two regular members under FRQ rules (see regular member definition);
  • May take part in all Geotop activities (seminars, annual conference, workshops, conferences) and are invited to promote the center on many occasions (guest speaker, technical missions in Canada/abroad, etc.).

Application procedure

The candidate must provide the following documents to the coordinator:

  • A cover letter;
  • An up-to-date CV (Canadian Common CV or other) detailing how the employee's membership will benefit the group.

A PhD is not a prerequisite for employee membership.

Membership applications must be sent to the solignac.sandrine [at] uqam.ca (Geotop coordinator). The final decision is taken by the members' assembly by electronic vote.
